What is the obsession with the front seat of cars(or riding shotgun)

Since I was a child, my siblings and I have always fought for the front seat in the car like it was a prize and we had to win it. In movies as well you hear people shouting I call shotgun, which relatively means that they call dibs on the front chair. This goes to say that this is a universal phenomenon. The reason for this article is due to the fact that several tweets concerning the front seat in the car have gone viral.

The question I’ll like to ask is, if you are a guy and you have a female friend in the passengers seat. If you are picking up your girlfriend, does the female friend have to vacate the Seat? And for the ladies, do you think the female friend must vacate the seat? Well I’ll answer my question, for me it’s a no. The friend doesn’t have to vacate the seat, as my friend said I can make myself relevant just by seating at the back.

I think one of the niches of my articles is to generally understand people, I’m a tad bit socially awkward so what the rest of the world might see as normal, I see as extreme. Why do females put so much importance to the front seat of a car?, why did we as children always want to seat at the front? I think I can answer the second though, I believe it was because with the front chair, you get to strut around like the king as you do not have to share the seat with anyone else.

I will really love to understand the obsession girlfriends have with sitting in that spot. Is it a Sheldon thing? (big bang theory joke), do they feel threatened by other people in the seat?, is it the same reason we did it as kids that they are doing it? I will generally like to understand this.
